I See Molluscs
Snail from adventure time
What is it? (Describe where the image came from and how it relates to your life): Today I chose a snail from my favorite cartoon since I was a kid, Adventure Time. I grew up watching this show, and I even watch it now, it’s my comfort show. The snail is a recurring Easter egg in the series, appearing in almost every episode, usually waving at the audience. It’s a fun little detail that adds to the charm of the show.
Identify the animal to species, providing justification for your answer (which features help you make your classification?) Common name: Snail Taxonomic ID (include Kingdom, Phylum, Order, Class, Genus, Species): Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Mollusca Class: Gastropoda Order: Stylommatophora (for land snails) Genus & Species: Cornu aspersum (common garden snail)
Describe its life history characteristics.

Habitat: Feeding: How it deals with wastes: How it protects itself (from predators or the environment): Anything else interesting to you: Snails have fascinating life history traits. They are highly adaptable and can be found in various environments, including forests, gardens, and wetlands. Most land snails are herbivores, feeding on leaves, fruits, and decaying plant matter, though some species eat fungi or small organisms. They excrete waste through a single opening in their mantle cavity, simplifying their digestive process. To protect themselves, snails rely on their hard, coiled shells, which provide shelter from predators and harsh environmental conditions. Additionally, their mucus secretion helps prevent dehydration and can even deter predators. One particularly interesting fact about snails is their ability to hibernate or estivate for months by sealing themselves inside their shells with a mucus barrier called an epiphragm.
