ABSTRACT:

Alpha Beta Inc. has a requirement of transferring material containers from a digging site to a hauling station. To cater needs, a system consisting of motor and a gearbox must be created. The application must prove to reduce costs and efficient.

CALCULATIONS AND DESIGNING OF THE SYSTEM:

GIVEN AND ASSUMED PARAMETERS:

  1. Slope Angle (A) = 25
  2. Container Weight (W) = 30000-34000 lbs
  3. Linear Speed (S) = 80-99 ft/min
  4. Input power (Pin) = 18.095 HP
  5. Pump overall efficiency (Overall efficiency) = 94%
  6. System power loss = 5%
  7. Hydraulic efficiency = 95%
  8. Motor Volumetric Efficiency (Veff) = 96%
  9. Motor Torsional Efficiency (Teff) = 92%

10. Drum Diameter (Ø) = 3ft = 36 inch

11. Co-efficient of friction (μ) = 0.

  1. Gear Ratio Efficiency (GReff.) = 95%
  2. Pressure should remain in a range of 2500-3500 psi for maximum output and industrial standards

MOTOR SELECTED: TEFC - 851042.

The motor is selected by taking into consideration the power efficiency, cost efficiency, and overall efficiency of the motor.

MOTOR PARAMETERS (FROM MANUFACTURER’S CATALOG):

  1. Volumetric displacement (Vd) = 6 CIPR
  2. Motor Speed (Na) = 500 rpm
  3. Maximum allowable pressure (Pmax) = 3000 psi
  4. Assumed output flow = 22 GPM (max)

Gearbox speed range: 10.26 rpm to 9.06 rpm. So, we can determine the gearbox ratio as follows: For Ngb =10.26 rpm , GBr = Nm / Ngb = 500/10.26 = 48. For Ngb =9.06 rpm , GBr = Nm / Ngb = 500/9.06 = 55. Gearbox ratio is 90: Selected gearbox is PFA20 – 120ANM by Ondrivesus

  1. Application Torque (Ta)  Ta(min) = Fa * r =5071.419118 = 91285.54 lbs-in  Ta(max) = Fa * r =5071.419118 = 103456.95 lbs-in
  2. Motor Torque (Tm)

 Tm(min) = Ta / (GBr x Greff.) =91285.54/(90*0.96) = 1056.54 lbs-in

 Tm(max) = Ta / (GBr x Greff.) = 103456.95/(90*0.96) = 1197.4184 lbs-in

6. Differential Pressure (ΔP)

 ΔP(min) = (2π x Tm) / (Vd x Teff.) = (2pi1056.54) / (60.92) = 1202 psi

 ΔP(max) = (2π x Tm) / (Vd x Teff.) = (2pi1197.4184) / (60.92) = 1362.28 psi

Crosschecking using System power loss or overall efficiency as follows:

 Seff(min) = Pp / Pin = (Q * ΔP * OVeff ) / (1714 * Pin)

 Seff.(max)= Pp/ Pin = (Q* ΔP* Overall efficiency )/ (1714* Pin)

CONCLUSION

To conclude with, the selected motor ranging the Linear speed (S) between 80-99 ft/min for the selected load value between 30000-34000 lbs and the range of pressure between 2500-3500 psi will give the system overall efficiency between 80.14% to 90.83%.
