Caesar gained fame and it seemed that he was a brilliant general as, despite his standard education and qualities, Caesar gained experience in the army of Asia Minor and in the government of Spain. In addition to that, he won election to an important public office in 63 BC. and also served in Spain where he gained fame by winning battles. After all that, he returned to Rome and was elected consul, the most important post in the entire Republic.
The victories brought riches to Caesar, which he used to finance construction projects in Rome, thus gaining popularity in the city. He also made sure to create some effective propaganda on his behalf. He made Commentaries on the Gallic Wars, said that, throughout the book, he referred to himself as "Caesar" and not as "I". This made the story seem factual. It was also ensured that "César" got credit for all the victories
Some just didn't like him and resented his power. Others feared that he had planned to become king.
