TITLE Historical Event- Type Message DESCRIPTION Create a typographic message for a historical event using the visual properties of type and spatial composition to amplify content. OBJECTIVES Typeface Appropriateness Type Contrasts Typographic Syntax Composition Text Line as Emphasis Type and Image PROCEDURE Select a historical event of national or international significance. Determine the adequate number of words to describe the event. Make sure your copy includes the following: Title of the event What happened The date Determine and select the appropriate typeface/s that would best suited to express the message and content. Give careful attention to the particulars of the letter-word- phrase relationships. That is, adjust the weights, size, letter spacing, widths and positioning of each letter - each word. Remember the essential component of this assignment is on the line of text. Emphasize this in order to give the event visual impact. Consider the overall color for the text and the background treatment. Add visual artifacts such as simple pictographic and photographic components. Arrange all elements into an effective composition. Work within a 11" x 17" (tabloid extra) dimension with a vertical or horizontal orientation. You may work larger. The subject will dictate the page orientation. EVALUATION CRITERIA Dynamic form (overall poster visualization) Layout effectiveness (dynamics of the composition)
