Blood Cell Types & Characteristics in Domestic Animals: Neutrophils, Eosinophils, Basophil, Quizzes of Agricultural engineering

Definitions and characteristics of various types of blood cells, including neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, thrombocytes, and hematological indices in dogs, cats, horses, and cows. It includes information on cell size, shape, nucleus appearance, cytoplasm staining, and normal values for blood volume, packed cell volume (pcv), hemoglobin (hgb), erythrocyte (rbc) count, mean corpuscular volume (mcv), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (mch), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (mchc).

TERM 1
Neutrophil
DEFINITION 1
Granulocyte Somewhat larger than the RBCs Densely stained
clomped nucleus may be elongated or constricted-
Polymorphonuclear Cytoplasm is clear to pale blue with
many scattered pink granules
TERM 2
Eosinophil
DEFINITION 2
Granulocyte Somewhat larger than Neutrophils and RBCs
Nucleus may be bi or tri-lobed. Cytoplasm is pale blue but
difficult to see due to the granules. Granules here attract
eosin from the stain and thus should be compared to the
color of the RBCs around the cell. May be lighter in color than
the RBCs.
TERM 3
Basophil
DEFINITION 3
Granulocyte Very rare in blood stains. Same size as
neutrophils. Elongated and sightly indented nucleus with less
densly stained chromatin. Cytoplasm is full of granules
stained light to dark purple or maybe even black.
TERM 4
Lymphocyte
DEFINITION 4
Agranulocyte most common in ruminants and rodents. Can
shift shape from small to large accordingly. Scanty, blue
staining cytoplasm which is hardly detectable.
TERM 5
Monocyte
DEFINITION 5
Agranulocyte and largest of the cells. Similar in appearance
in all common species Pleomorphic nucleus Fine, lacy,
smooth cytoplasm stains very light (and boring)

Thrombocytes

Platelets, fragments of the megakaryocyte from the bone marrow. Vary in size and shape. smaller than RBCs. In poor collection, the platelets may clump together in the blood. TERM 7
