Graphing Lines: Finding Intercepts and Slope from Given Points - Prof. Errin E. White, Assignments of Algebra

Instructions for graphing lines using given points and finding the x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and slopes. Students are asked to find the ordered pairs corresponding to given x and y values, and then use these points to graph the line. The document also includes answers for checking the accuracy of the graphed lines.

7.1GRAPHING LINES USING POINTS AND INTERCEPTS
Go to 7.1 in the book (7.2 in the old edition.) and do the following for each problem:
(a) For each equation, I will give you an x-value. Find the ordered pair on the line that corresponds to this
x-value.
(b) For each equation, I will give you a y-value. Find the ordered pair on the line that corresponds to this
y-value.
(c) Find the x-intercept, if it exists.
(d) Find the y-intercept, if it exists.
NOW, GRAPH the line by plotting the 3 or 4 points that you obtained above and connecting them in a
straight line. For the odd problems, check your graph with the book.
(e) After you have graphed the line, determine if the slope of the line is zero, positive, negative, or undefined
by inspection.
