Reality is a subjective topic and reality itself can change. According to Aristotle an observer himself or herself creates a reality. If something is real for one person then it may or may not be real for another person. For some Angels and fairies may be real while for some only scientific truths may be real. Though what is considered as “scientific truths” by masses, may also have lot of conjectures and hypothesis still under research.

Running head: RIP PROJECT- GLOBALIZATION IS THE NEW REALITY RIP Project – Globalization is the new reality Subject: International Relations Institution Name: Columbia University Reality is a subjective topic and reality itself can change. So, there is no one truth about reality as the idea of reality does not belong to any one set of people. We also cannot say that one idea of reality is the only truth. Most of us may have studied about the elephant and 5 blind men who fought among themselves. Every of the blind men touched the elephant and described the elephant differently. One of them touched the trunk and thought that elephant is something long in shape. Another touched the ear and thought of elephant being ear shaped. They were all telling a truth but fighting among themselves. Every set of people may have different idea of reality but the reality of an overwhelming majority of people is generally accepted as the current reality for reference. The political reality of the nation being supreme entity is changing fast. There has been rapid progress in the field of transportation and communication. This has resulted in the world coming together. Internet and airways have resulted in faster exchange of
information and people. Today we find that our colleges and workplaces to have people from across the world. We have people from across the world traveling to one country or the other. We have many of them settling and resettling in new countries. Trade and cultural exchanges are taking place. The notion of “other” and “alien” are under attack as humans are finding more similarity with one another than they were informed. The information and communication technologies are truly bringing out a miracle. We have to understand competing ideas that compete for being the primary idea of reality. There is a notion that nations are primary realities and humans must accept this reality to be true. But these nations have been created in last 200-300 years, some of them even have been created in last 1-2 years. We also have to understand as how the nations were formed to understand that nations may not remain primary reality in future. In the beginning humans used to exist as tribes as they did not travel much. Then as they learnt to use animals for travelling, they formed tribal alliances and tribal chiefs. Slowly they formed bullocks and carts driven by animals. It brought a change as they could then communicate with more people. So, they formed kingdoms. As horses started being used for faster communication, it resulted in bigger kingdoms. The birth of nation states as we know was possible only after further developments in transportation technology. There has been a massive change in transportation and communication technology so we should expect political reality to change.
. Time and tide have waited for none. Political reality is already changing. Today we have United Nations, WTO, IMF and many other global political bodies. This is possible because of better technology. So, as humans moved from existing as tribes to
realizing that collaboration and partnership between people of different places can alone help to fight global warming. Nations are coming together and agreements like Kyoto agreements are in place. These agreements would have to be followed and expect more powerful bodies like European Union to come up to handle the need of collaborations. There is an opposite rhetoric being propagated by a section of people. They are warning of losing culture and nation identities. Change is inevitable and Change is the only constant. The change in transportation and communication is showing its impact and will impact the future. Just as bullock carts and horses in the past changed political reality. So, expect the internet and airways to completely create the emerging new political reality. The new reality will be complete globalization. The new reality will be a global government in future. We are moving into a new era. Whether we welcome or oppose the new reality, the new reality will be reality soon.
RIP Project Bibliography Greider, William. One World, Ready or Not: The Manic Logic of Global Capitalism. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1998. Grieder William is an American Journalist who writes primarily about economics. In his book titled ‘One World, Ready or not: The Manic Logic of Global Capitalism’, the author pointed out that globalism was now a reality in future. He pointed out to firms forming alliances in their supply chains as well as in their capital systems. Many firms have invested in other firms across the globe and the end result is that they don’t have national borders. The author pointed out that we are moving into a One World Reality. This book was useful for project because it gave valuable insight into how reality is being changed by economics and how global capitalism was connecting the world, Lechner, Frank J., and John Boli, eds. The Globalization Reader. 3d ed. Malden, MA: Blackwell, 2007. Lechner Frank and John Boli are professors of public policy in a Upsala university, Sweden. Their book titled globalization provided deep insight as how globalization was becoming a reality. The network has been prepared to realize the potential of
Analysis of Rhetorical Choices Text: “Reality is a subjective topic and reality itself can change”. Here I am trying to clarify why the reality is subjective further in the same sentence. So, this rhetoric can be classified under metanoia. It is an appeal to logic so it can be termed as Pathos style of rhetoric. The subjective nature of reality is also due to it changing constantly. So, no one is sure of reality as by the time we arrive at a conclusion the reality gets changed. The purpose of rhetoric was to inform users that reality always change. Though reality is subjective as it depends on popular opinion, but it can change. It can change because popular opinion can change. This was to prepare audience to fact that nationalism is being currently replaced by globalization. The audience may be shocked to hear that we can move from nationalism to globalization, so it was important that they be prepared to the fact that reality for most people is changing now. Internet and effective transport are changing reality as we know. Text: “Time and tide have waited for none”
This text has been used in the analysis for parallelism effect. The parallel notion being used is that tide of an ocean does not wait for anyone. The tide rises in the ocean on scheduled time due to moon coming closer. The tide of an ocean may also rise due to change in weather pattern and no one can stop the tide. No one could change the tide in the Indian ocean due to tsunami and hundreds of thousands of humans died in 2005. So, everyone knows the fact that tide cannot be stopped. Humans till now do recognize that any force of nature cannot be stopped. The second fact being pushed using parallelism is that even time cannot be stopped. The purpose of using this rhetoric text in the project was to make it clear to everyone that changes happening with time could not be stopped. These changes like humans forming tribes, then tribal alliances, then small kingdoms, then nations and now forming global organizations cannot be stopped. The use of rhetoric is right as the changes in political realities are happening with time. We have UN, WTO, IMF and other global bodies. We did not have them in past. Text: “Change is inevitable, and Change is the only constant” This rhetoric has style of a hyperbole and it has been used to signify that change cannot be stopped. Change will remain constant. It is being pointed out or exaggerated that change is not only inevitable but also constant in time. There is an appeal to time or Kairos being used. The use of this rhetoric in the project was to provide a counter argument to nationalist notions of losing culture and identity. The nationalists do argue that we are losing our
people themselves to welcome change. If change would not be welcomed, then people would not be ready to prepare themselves for the change. They would not learn many languages or inter-cultural fluencies which would be critical life skills in the future.
