Film Paragraph
The film that I’m presenting is “E.T the Extra Terrestrial” directed by Steven
Spielberg. Its about a group of aliens that came to earth trying to explore and study
the forest until the government showed up causing the aliens to flee in their
spaceship, accidentally leaving one of the aliens behind. This one alien is soon
discover by a 10-year-old boy named Elliott who befriends with it calling the alien
“E.T” and is later then introduced to his big brother and little sister. The goal of this
film is for Elliott and his siblings to help the alien get back to his home world before
the government finds out about it. The film had interesting shots such as first person
view shots and long shots where E.T runs into the forest trying to get back to his
spaceship before the government captures him which gives the audience the feeling
that we are running for our lives. Another interesting shot that was on the film is a
track-in-shot where it physically moves in on the subject, typically going from a
medium close-up shot to a tighter close-up shot. This shot was used when Elliott
was looking for the creature in the cornfield where it took place at night and had a
scary theme, leaving the audience terrified when they first looked at the alien for the
first time. One of the touching scenes in the film was when a depressed Elliott
speaks lovingly to his dead, extra-terrestrial friend; they use a claustrophobic over-
the-shoulder shots in which the shoulder occupies an unusually large portion of the
screen, cramming the main subject against the side of the frame. This shot signifies
that Elliott and E.T are splitting apart but is then followed by a follow shot when

Elliott finds out that E.T is still alive and rushes back to get him, which brings joy to the audience and the story. The progress of the film is for the characters to bond with the alien, which made audience feel happy and touched on the relationship between the main character and the alien its like a brother that you never had. This is one of the greatest films I ever saw and it deserves to be part of the Top 100 Films of all time.
