Course Description Psychology 2314: Life Span Growth and Development: A summary of biological, psychological, and socioemotional development that normally occurs during a person’s life span.

Rationale We can better understand other people and ourselves if we understand patterns of development and major changes that normally occur during one’s life span in the biological, psychological, and socioemotional

domains. We can also become more aware of the kinds of experiences that foster positive development and the kinds of experiences that tend to have a negative impact on development. Knowledge of how humans grow and develop relates to careers in psychology, teaching, nursing, other health careers, human services, and law enforcement as well as to one’s personal relationships.

    1. There will be complete silence during exams. Anyone observed communicating will be penalized and must surrender their paper. Active or passive cheating is academic dishonesty and will not be tolerated. The instructor reserves the right to assign an “F” in any instance of cheating. This includes plagiarism (on exams or assignments).
    2. Absolutely no personal belongings including but not limited to technology, backpacks, purses, etc. will be permitted in the testing room. Do not bring cells, pagers etc. into classroom. If they go off, you must surrender your exam.
  4. Students are given a two day period to take their regular exams. Once you sit-in for an exam, you must complete it. You may not take an exam twice.

Description of Exam Items

Exams are generally (but not always) 50 multiple choice/true false items at

two points each. Some exams will include less multiple choice and one or two essay questions. A take-home essay or assignment may be used in place of the actual exam essay question(s). Regular exams will be taken on designated dates and times only. You will have two days to choose from. No exceptions regardless of reasons. Please do not request exceptions.

All written work will be evaluated on quality and content. Write clearly and grammatically correctly because these factors will certainly impact your grade. Essays done at home must be Times New Roman font, double- spaced, font size 12, standard margins, and Word or RTF (rich text format) documents only. I will not accept anything else.

If you studied sufficiently but earned a failing grade (“69” or below) on an exam, contact me to explore the matter.

Description of Assignments Assignments will vary but will consist mostly of hands-on activities such as mini-research papers, interviews, and outside readings. There is no make- up work. All homework is meant to put theory into practice. All work will be submitted in a timely manner.

The Semester Progress Report will be available on OLE Web (http://ole.

laredo.edu) The instructor will notify you when the grade will be available

and for how long. Students must access the Semester Progress Report and Final grades through OLE web.
