Part I: Identification
Be able to identify these terms in detail, explaining the ID’s significance in American
History. These should be paragraph length and include information from lectures and
your textbooks. DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA!
The first section will consist of 7 Identification terms selected from lectures. You will
write on FIVE of the ten terms. Each term is worth 10 points for a total of 50 possible
points.
-Birth of Agriculture

-Bacon’s Rebellion
-Navigation Acts
-British Colonial Practices
-French and Indian War
-The Stamp Act
-The Boston Massacre

-Alien and Sedition Acts
Part II: Essay
All three essays will appear on the exam. You must answer ONE ESSAY.
Your essay should be formally prepared with an introduction and conclusion paragraph.
You should have a strong focus throughout your essay, and express your thoughts in a
clear and coherent manner.
A good essay will not only have the appropriate amount of details and information, but it
will also ANALYZE the question.
This section is worth 50 points.
1. Why was 1492 the year Christopher Columbus discovered the “New World?” What
factors determined the voyage across the sea, and what were the consequences of
Columbus’s voyage?
2. Compare and contrast the settlement and development of the Massachusetts,
Pennsylvania, and Virginia colonies before 1750. In what ways did the goals,
achievements, failures, and experiences of the settlers of these colonies contribute to the
creation of a uniquely American identity?
3. Discuss the “Road to Revolution.” What factors contributed to the movements towards
Independence in the colonies? Do you consider the American Revolution a true
revolution or a war of rebellion?
