What is Ancient Greece's Influence on the world today?
The ancient Greeks were a civilization that existed from 800 B.C. to 500 BC about. Despite living in a
very small region of the world, they are the foundation of our current civilization.
Contributions:
1. Philosophy: philosophy is man's intellectual effort to explain what surrounds us. The most important
philosophers of Ancient Greeks are Socrates, Platon and Aristoteles, these geniuses of thought, in their effort to
decipher reality, formed some of the most important sciences that continue to exist even today, they invented
logic, physics, political science, mathematics, biology, economics, ethics, metaphysics, and even aesthetics.
2. Democracy: The Ancient Greeks were the first people in history that allowed the citizens themselves
to make their own decisions. In the Assembly, any citizen could express his opinions in front of the others and
thus any decision of the government was discussed democratically. However, this only developed in some cities
like Athens, while in the Greek region of Sparta things were more militarized.
3. The Olympic Games: the Greeks lived in separate cities each with their own government, but every 4
years they joined in an event of sports competitions in honor of their God Zeus called "The Olympic Games".
The Greeks attached great importance to body care and even they invented the Gym, which was a public place
where they would train and exercise continuously.
4. Vocabulary: it could be said that the Greeks were one of the most “great” races in all of history, that
is why all the Greek vocabulary for the use of science began to be adapted since the Romans, as well as the
letters themselves of the Greek alphabet have precise meanings within science, for example, the letter π
represents a geometric constant that expresses the relationship between the circumference of a circle and its
diameter.
5. The theater: the Greeks were the first people to perform plays. For their works, the Greeks built
large amphitheaters in which thousands of people could enjoy their artistic creations. The Greek theater talked
about heroes and gods in great conflicts, they also had works of satire and comedy where the characters were
