Exemplification Essay
October 14, 2023
College life offers many opportunities for personal development and academic
achievement for students, making it a transformative period in their lives. Despite this, college
students often face various obstacles that impede their progress along the path to success. Taylor
Lance illustrates vividly how food insecurity reduces college students' success in her essay
"Food Insecurity on Campus.". As much as I agree with all the points she made in her essay,
another factor that comes to mind when thinking about college success rates is finance. College
students' success is strongly influenced by their finances.
Today, college degrees are becoming increasingly important for career advancement and
success. Many students have found it difficult to navigate their college years without facing
financial hardships due to the rising cost of tuition and living expenses. One of the primary ways
in which finances affect college student success is through their impact on a student's academic
performance. Students who struggle with coursework while also managing their finances may
experience stress due to financial constraints. Students under this stress can have difficulty
concentrating, studying effectively, and performing well in exams and assignments. Moreover,
limited financial resources may leave students working long hours or taking on multiple jobs,
which reduces their study time and energy. They may suffer from lower grades as a result,
hindering their success in college. Campus-based jobs might be a solution to this problem. It
might be possible for students to perform better academically if campuses incorporated different
workspaces that correlate with their majors, making it less stressful having to juggle both
obstacles.
There is also a correlation between finances and mental health to consider. College
students can experience anxiety, depression, and psychological distress due to financial
difficulties. Having to worry about tuition, textbooks, and basic living expenses can negatively
affect their mental health. Consequently, they may have difficulty focusing, engaging in social
activities, and maintaining healthy relationships. Students with poor mental health are less likely
to be motivated, self-confident, and resilient. The implementation of comprehensive financial
assistance programs may offer a solution to college students facing mental health difficulties due
to financial constraints. The purpose of these programs is to relieve the financial burden of
students, so that they can focus on their academic success and well-being. Many programs
offered, such as grants, scholarships, and financial counseling, are temporary solutions.
Furthermore, college students may experience a loss of well-being due to financial
burdens. Lack of financial resources can result in inadequate nutrition, healthcare access, and

Lack of financial resources can result in inadequate nutrition, healthcare access, and

housing options. Students may suffer from increased stress, fatigue, and a compromised immune system due to these factors. As a result, their ability to attend classes regularly, participate in extracurricular activities, and fully participate in college may be compromised. A student's basic needs and financial security are essential to their success in college. A student's financial situation has a significant impact on his or her success in college. Academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being are adversely affected by financial constraints. Student financial challenges must be addressed by colleges and universities to promote student success. To help students focus on their education and achieve their goals, institutions should offer more affordable tuition options, increase financial aid accessibility, and provide comprehensive support services. I hope college will be accessible to all regardless of their future financial status. Since education is something that cannot be measured by money, finances should not play a role in limiting its availability.
