Directions:
Write a paper entitled, Twenty Essential Concepts All Beginning Teachers Need To Know
To Be Successful. The twenty items should be reflective concepts you learned from the
book, Educating Esmé. After stating each important concept, cite at least one example
illustrating the concept and the page(s) where the concept was illustrated.
The length of the paper is not as important as the content. Please be concise yet
thorough. There are many important concepts in the book, so choose twenty that YOU
feel will help beginning teachers be successful.

After completing your paper on Educating Esmé, please do the following…
Think about the following four organizing themes that are the cornerstone of the Millikin
University teacher education program:
1. The professional educator engages in active learning.
2. The professional educator creates communities of learning.
3. The professional educator facilitates learning for others.
4. The professional educator collaborates with others.
Considering these themes and the MTS, how has this assessment impacted your growth
and development as a teacher? More specifically, reflect upon this assignment and
address how the organizing themes are exemplified by the professional educator, Esmé,
and the MTS that align with the themes.
The paper is worth a maximum of 75 points. Good writing/grammar skills are expected.
