“What I learned”
I have learned so much in this course, my two favorite activities would be learning how
to sell something on eBay and the Stock Portfolio assignments. I had never known how
both of these work, but doing them showed me how convenient it is to sell on eBay and
buy stocks, which I plan to do in the future. I also enjoyed doing the Blackboard
personal homepage; I never knew you could do that on Blackboard. All the quizzes that
we did were very informative and taught me much about e-commerce. I was glad about
the practice quiz that really helped me on the real quiz. I liked doing the PRIZM
assignment, but all the areas in Weakley County seemed to be mislead. The website had
us as very low educated and the names they picked us to be were not my type. I could
not find one that fit me, but it was still very interesting to see. Last but not least, I loved
ordering flowers on FTD it was easy and fun. It was interesting to see how much it does
cost to send flowers overseas. I also was not aware that you could send flowers overseas,
I had this picture in my mind that they flew the flowers over, yet they only send the order
overseas. As you can see, I have learned a lot from this class and it was so much fun at
the same time!
“I wish I had known”
There is not much I wish I had known to say. I came to class mostly every time we met
and completed everything on time. I expect an A in the course. I know that it is very
important to do everything on time and of course, just come to class! This class was so
much fun, I absolutely loved it and Dr. Johnston knows how to teach things in a fun way
so I learned more that way. This is one of my favorite Marketing courses I have taken.

learning about how eBay worked and I will definitely use that again. Also the Prizm assignment was interesting. I really didn’t have any views that changed my thinking. I wish I had known: The best that I could give would be to read the chapters before taking the quizzes. It doesn’t take very long to do but it will help a lot. Also it is a good idea to take multiple practice quizzes because the main quiz questions come right off of these. Even if you get a one take at least 4. I wish I had known a little bit more about the computer because some of the terminology was hard to grasp in some chapters. I also would have like to have used eBay before the class. If I had used eBay before I would have probably done the assignment more easily and also might have auctioned off something that actually would have sold. Alison Stringfellow Marketing 430 April 26, 2006-04- Advice Assignment

  1. What I learned: In this course I learned more about e-commerce and how that it all works. It was interesting to know the different terminology that goes along with e- commerce. The highlights of the course were the discussion boards. They were not hard, but gave you a chance to learn some new facts. The information about amazon was interesting to learn and about how it all was started. The topics about the stock portfolio made me appreciate how much stock brokers go through in order to figure out which stock to buy and how much research needs to be done before purchasing stock.
  2. I wish I had known: I think that to keep up with this course you need to keep the syllabus of everything we are doing in class up to date and mark off each time you finish something. Also, take a planner and write down everything that will be due and when at the beginning of the semester. I wish I had known ahead of time that there were so many quizzes, but once I got organized it was a breeze. If I would have known about the quizzes I would have bought my planner ahead of time. Amanda Parker In this course, I learned that you need to stay on top of all of your assignments. It is best if you can do as much work as possible at the beginning of the semester. At this time, you typically aren’t as stressed or as burned out with classes, so this is a good time to get your work completed. I wish that I had done this myself. The more ahead of the class you are the better. I learned a lot about the e-commerce world and how things actually work. I was very excited to have a class that didn’t involve a lot of tests or a final. With so many classes that load you up on tests and group projects, I was glad to have a class where I didn’t have to worry about that. Some things that I wish I had known include not needing

April 27, 2006 Marketing 430-E-Commerce What I learned in this class was that E-commerce has a big part in the business world. I learned how to sell stuff on the internet and about internet security. Even though I didn’t want to give one, a highlight of the course for me would be the website demos. I found that there are a lot of neat and interesting websites out there. Another highlighted would be the e-bay action. I thought before this assignment that it wasn’t safe to sell on the internet but now I sell stuff on the internet all the time. One subject covered in class that made an impression on was security. At the same time this subject came up, a student in the class had their identity stolen. This made for a real impact on the subject. It showed to me and to the other students that it could happen to you. I would say the e-bay and internet security changed my way of thinking for reason already listed above. I wish I had known missing classes was accepted as long as your work was done and turn in on time. I wish I had known what e-commerce really was about and to call dibs on something before the dibs on called in class. The reason for this is because by the time I would pick a subject to call dibs on someone else had called it before me, If I had called dibs before the class period when dibs calling was done then I would have got a good subject to write about. Another thing would be that the quizes can take time to take, so try to give yourself an hour or two. Carson Kuehn E-commerce Advice assignment April 13, 2006 What I learned: In this class, you will learn how to put an item up for auction on Ebay. This was definitely the most useful to me, because I had some things I didn’t want anymore and needed to sell. It’s amazing how easy it is. I also enjoyed the field trip to the computer center for the university over in Crisp Hall. I had never seen any servers or supercomputers before. It was much more fun doing this than sitting in lecture and learning about it. What I wish I had known: If I could only give one piece of advice, it would be do NOT buy the book. All you have to do is take the quizzes enough times to get all of the questions. Then take the real quiz right after all of the practice quizzes. Also, it was helpful for me to do all of the quizzes in the first few weeks of class. This way you can have them done and don’t have to worry about them any more. Don’t stress out. This will be an easy class. No attendance policy means you can miss some class and still get a great grade. The demo presentation is really informal. You really see some cool sites that you’ve never seen before.

Cheng-Yi Huang (Ariel) Marketing 430 April 26, 2006 Question 1 “What I learned”: I did learn something in this class. First of all what I learned is that I know who to use Internet(Yahoo) to invest the stock, which website should I go and how to check(Q- form) this company is make money or not. The other this is eBay assignment. To be honestly, I never sell stuff on the Internet before the class. This class gave me a chance to “really” sell something on eBay which is the coolest thing I think. The reason why I didn’t sell things on the Internet? Because I think it would be complicated and have some risks. This eBay assignment really change my thought even I didn’t sell my key case, I still really enjoy this selling processes. The last thing is the demo. I like the part which is I could know some other websites which is very interesting. Also I could practice my speech in front of people. Even though I don’t like to do this, but I still made it! Question 2 “I wish I had known”: My advice for the next term, I think is keeping what we done in this semester. The reason why I said that because I like the way this class been taught. The class won’t give you too much pressure but you still can learn something and enjoy to do the assignment and to take the quiz. I know e-commerce will be a new trend in the future. In fact, right now it is already start. After the class, I ensure that the way to do the business is not like traditional way; Internet will bring a huge effect not only to the business but also to our personal life style. Chung-Chun Ho Dr. Timothy Johnston Marketing 430 – e-commerce What I learned from marketing 430? Since long ago, I have many experiences buying stuffs from eBay. However, I never had had any experience selling stuffs on the eBay. This course really benefits me a lot to deal with business based on e-commerce. Especially on the eBay practice in the class, I had learned from my first selling experience on the eBay. Before this course, I thought it must take some time to write down whole shipping information and ship it. That means taking me so much time to complete a truncation. However, eBay make it easy on those wasting time procedures. That really makes me so exciting because from now on I can sell anything I want on the eBay. Just click and make money. My advice to those future students to this course is strongly recommending you coming to the class every time, because there is a lot of practical experiences deal with e- commerce you need to participate in and earn the credits. Also, the timing of taking online quizzes is very flexible because you can finish it before the class or after the class

Jabbar Lewis E-Commerce Marketing April 27, 2006 What I learned was that e-commerce is a very big world. This class was fun in many ways. First of all we were able to play around on the internet and try many things during class. Also we had many assignments that dealt with working on the internet. Many of the assignments were fairly easy and did not require a lot of time. I for one could not tell you what the class lectures were about because I was too busy waiting on Dr. Johnston to take the freeze off of the computers. We had two assignments that I loved the most and that was the E-bay assignment, and the stock portfolio assignment. Both of the assignments were very good and actually had me thinking about during some stocks in the future. I wish I had known that for one you really do not need the book for this class. I did not have the book and the quizzes are common sense if you know a little bit about computers. Also I advise others to go ahead and do the quizzes early. With all the quizzes being already on blackboard you can finish class real early especially since there is no final. As long as you stay on top of the quizzes and the other assignments, this class by far is an easy A. James Baddour Marketing 430 April 26, 2006

  1. “What I learned?” I have learned a lot of different and exciting things in this class. It has helped me better understand E-commerce. I think the selling of your own product on E-bay was the best. I really thought it was interesting to sell an item on E-bay and also watch what everyone else that was selling. It was interesting to see how items were put on there, I also had never maid shipping labels to ship our products out this was also interesting. It was a lot of products that brought a significant amount of money that I never thought would sell, for instance the bat selling for 90 dollars. I also learned a lot from everyone telling about their website. I found out a lot that was interesting on these websites and also what they have to offer. I also learned a lot from taking the quizzes; there are a lot of interesting things going on in E-commerce these days.
  2. “I wish I had known” One of the things I wish I had known was what the last class sold and what their profit was on E-bay. I believe if I had known this I believe the class as a whole could have made more profit. I also wish I had known more about websites but I learned a lot from taking this class. I would recommend it to anyone. Jason Balestrini E-Commerce Mktg

Advice assignment Over the period of this course, there were a lot of things I learned about E- commerce and the class. I learned that I enjoyed the online style of classes a lot more than I expected. I really liked the ability to take a quiz on my time so that I can better prepare myself for it. I also enjoyed the relaxed format of the class, which gave students an opportunity to get a feel for e-commerce through experience. I think what I learned most from this class would be how much E-commerce affects us in our daily lives. Doing the Prizm assignment really opened my eyes to marketing over the internet. I didn’t realize someone had segmented the U.S. by area codes. I also enjoyed the Ebay assignment, which let us participate in E-commerce. There really wasn’t a whole lot that I wish I had known. I had already had International Marketing, which is somewhat like E-Commerce in the way it was set up. I wish I had known how to use Ebay before I took the class, which might have made it a little easier. But overall, I had a pretty good feel for what was going on. I really enjoyed the class, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to take it. I would recommend that any marketing major take this class. Jason Bell April 26, 2006 E-commerce Advice Assignment The most important thing for this class is to stay on top of your assignments. If you can do that then a good grade will be easy come to by. I liked the fact that we get to show our favorite websites, because every one got to see how much I love the Memphis grizzlies. I liked the ebay assignment because I finally learned how to use ebay which is going to be important seeing that I am going to have to sell my uncle’s record collection. It is a very interesting class and learn many new tools that I will use later on. I learned that there is a lot of detail involved in ecommerce marketing. It is a difficult process trying to decide what formats to use and what customers will respond best to. I learned a lot about the different type of websites that are out there during the student’s demos. There are a lot of sites that I had never heard of before. I now know what they are and how to use them. I also learned that reading the chapters before the quizzes really helps. The quizzes are not that hard as long as you study. You can also take the practice quizzes multiple times before you take the actual quiz, so there is no excuse not to do well, but it happens. I also learned that many of the projects are already listed ahead of the due date. If you start on them early, you won’t be as stressed out trying to finish them at the last minute. I wish that I had known how important it was to read the chapters at the beginning of the course. The quizzes are not hard when you know the chapters. They take a really

marketing a product online to make it more appealing to a customer. The website demos were interesting as well. I saw a few new sites that I wanted to check out later on my own. I Wish I Had Known Well, at the start of the semester I slacked off some and didn’t check my syllabus. So, when those first two chapter quizzes came around, I was oblivious to them. Obviously, I didn’t take them or receive credit for them and some of the other project assignments. I got my act together though, and took advantage of the two make-up quizzes available. So, make sure you watch the syllabus and the project schedule and don’t miss any assignments, because that can put you in the hole quick. Jonathan Parker Marketing 430 4-25- What I learned: I learned a great deal in this course about the importance of marketing on the internet. The internet is so important to people now and is a big part of many people’s everyday lives in the world. One of the major things that caught my extra attention in this course was the e-bay assignment. It taught me a lot about business over the internet. I was already a buyer but it taught me how to sell on e-bay and it is a rather simple process. Another reason it was an interesting topic was because we actually had to bring and sell an item through the professor’s e-bay account (yes, you will the profits if it sells). I wish I had known: I wish I had known a lot of things that we went over in this course, particularly all the different websites we went on and found out about. I say this because we I would have been shopping or selling on a lot of these websites before this class. I would advise to pay close attention in this class because it is very helpful in regard to business and marketing through the internet in today’s world. Jordan Nielsen Marketing 430 April 27th, 2006 What I learned: This course taught me many things about commerce done through the internet. I did not know a lot about how E-Bay and Amazon worked, so it was nice to learn about those things. One of the highlights of the course was definitely the E-Bay auction. I also really enjoyed some of the demos. A few of the websites were pretty neat, and I am glad that I saw them. It was really interesting to see the things that sold and the things that didn’t sell. I have a better understanding of how to design my auction. I think the main thing I am taking away from this course is that there is more to e-commerce than I originally thought. It is more than just a website. It was definitely an eye-opener.

I wish I had known: The quizzes come at you pretty fast. You really have to stay on top of them, or you will lose those points. If I had known that at the start of the class, I would have paid more attention to it. My advice to someone about to take this course would be to look at the class schedule often. With the assignments also coming pretty quickly, it is very easy to miss a quiz. Lauren Highsmith E-Commerce: Marketing 430 April 19, 2006 What I learned: In this course I learned about the Internet and about companies that use the Internet as a medium to sell their products and services. I also thought it was interesting to listen to everyone’s demo about an Internet company of their choice. I got to see how everyone in the class uses the Internet for different things like travel, shopping, keeping up with their favorite sports team, or maybe just looking up recipes. I got to sell an item on Ebay for the first time, and realized how easy it is to do. The highlights were that there were no major tests and everything was turned in on blackboard. There are assignments, but they don’t take up too much time and can be completed in class. This class allows you to concentrate on all of your other harder classes. It is a very low-stress class. I wish I had known: I wish that I had known about this class a long time ago. Dr. Johnston keeps the students involved by doing assignments in class. The only thing that I wish I hadn’t done was buy the book because if you take the quizzes enough then you will automatically know the answers. The quizzes can be taken as many times as you want, so if you keep trying then you will eventually make a perfect score. Leslie Frazier Marketing 430 04/18/ What I learned in Marketing 430 was how to conduct business online and that you can use the internet anywhere, anytime. Before this class I had no idea what all you could do on the internet besides shop online, pay bills online, search for things online. In this class I learned how to sell items on EBay, order flowers for someone in another country, and make my own homepage. The highlights of this course were that we could work at our own pace and learn how to do the different things online by ourselves. We were able to see how to do everything online through the use of technology and computers. The information that had an impression on me was that you can do anything online anywhere in the world!!! The topics that also impressed me were that you can look up any

I wish that I had known that I didn’t have to buy the book for this class. The best piece of advice I can offer you are too take and retake the practice quizzes until you know the information right off. What I would do is to take the quizzes over and over until I had made a perfect score three times in a row; this way I knew that I had seen all the questions and had known the correct answers to them. 4/20/2006 Michael Butler MKTG 430 Advice Assignment What I learned in this course is a lot of general e-commerce facts that I never knew. I learned how to look up facts and figures about a company, and how to check a website to see how many links it had connecting to it. Just a lot of cool stuff that I never thought about when I looked at a web page. I sold my first item ever on the computer in this class. That was a pretty neat experience, even thought I lost money. The main highlight of the course for me was the e-bay assignment. Probably because I had never bought or sold anything on the internet, and since you let use your account it made it easy and fun on use. I think the class also got to interact with each other on this assignment. The biggest impression on me was the last assignment, the debate. I had to argue that there should not be more regulations on the sell of alcohol and tobacco over the internet. Now obviously I believe the opposite, but it was very interesting to read during my research how many people want an open market for liquor on the internet. The topics that changed my way of thinking is I would have to say again the debate topic. It made me realize that as long as there is a demand for a product there will also be a market. Now whether that market is legal or not is decided by law, but the consumers will always be the one to make the market. I wish I had known that there were no test. I know that Dr. Johnston discussed it at the beginning of the semester, I still didn’t know before hand. It made the quizzes seem less pressured. I know there were 13 of them, but not having to cram to study and taking them on you own time made it a lot better. The trip we took to the computer center was very interesting. Now I don’t claim to be a computer wiz, and I aint, but there is a demand for graduates that know about computers nowadays and if you don’t learn them you will be left behind in the work place. I wish I had known to learn some of the computer jargon. Not that it’s the most important thing but like I said computers are every where you turn around. Wes Penn My advice for this class would be to work ahead one, because this will enable you to be better prepared for the classes when you go. And to always go to class, due to the fact that there are a lot of discussion board assignments and if you do not go to class you will not know when they are due. Overall if you just do the work and listen in class, it isn’t very difficult to get a good grade in this class.
