Subjectively, art has no limits and boundaries because the limits are not arbitrarily drawn. But, it may have for some and doesn’t have for few. According to Enzo Robert, if art has boundaries and limits, possibly most of the artists won’t follow and recognize it. It is also possible that they twist those limits, for their own sake and purpose. They depend heavily on context, objective, and moral principles, all of which are constantly shifting. Perhaps, the sole limit of art is humanity itself, which in the long run will decide the ideas, techniques, and types of art are to stay and be appreciated by future generations. For example, the use of religion as their medium is prohibited if it includes nudity but in one sense, a nude is a work of fine art that has as its primary subject the unclothed human body, forming a subject genre of art. Examples of nude art, is the sculptures of Michaelangelo, and the paintings of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Also, the use of blood as the medium is also considered as vice but for the artists it is considered art. Furthermore, recently Richard Gomez and art enthusiast drew flak for one of his works, titled “OOOOHH,” which depicts yellow male genitalia on a black background. Netizens branded the artwork as crude, but were more surprised with the painting’s almost P200,000 price tag. The 48"x48" painting was created using black and yellow acrylic paint on wood. Gomez downplayed the criticism on his artwork, and explained the meaning behind the work. He said that the artwork is “Self-explanatory. Given a deeper thought, it shows lust, self-pleasure and power.” As a conclusion, Arts do have a limit if one’s self-set it. The limits of art primarily depend on a person or humanity but it has no certain limit or stated limit that is known by all.
