Darters Of Brevard –Board Of Regulations

Board Location:

● The area should be a low traffic area to decrease the risk of injuries. ● There should be nothing breakable 2 3 feet on either side of the board and preferably nowhere near the board at all. Darts can bounce 8 feet or more off the board. ● The floor should be considered in several ways: ○ A concrete, stone or tile floor will break darts and dull the points. ○ A wood floor will get lots of holes in it around the front of the board. ○ Linoleum or vinyl flooring will also get a lot of holes. ○ Carpeting will eventually be worn in the playing area but will provide the safest environment for your darters ● There should be adequate room for spectators and players when they are not throwing. ● The ceiling height must be no less than 7 feet 6 inches. ● Dartboard must be a minimum of 30” from the bull’s eye to the wall. Dartboards mounted side by side must be a minimum of 48” from center to center bull’s eye. ● No obstructions may exist between the throwing line and the surface to which the board is mounted.

Hanging The Board:

A dartboard must be affixed to a stable background at a height of 5 feet 8 inches from the floor to the center of the inner bull’s eye. If a backboard is used to protect the wall around the board, this will also have to be centered around the board.

Marking The Throw Line:

● The throw line (also known as the oche, toe line or hockey) should be at least 18” long but not to exceed 24”. It may be made of tape, a store bought throw line sticker, or a piece of wood or metal. ● The throw line may not be a continuous line for areas with multiple boards. Each board is to have its own distinct marker. ● It should be placed exactly 7 foot 9 and 1/4 inches from the FACE of the board to the front of the toe line. ● To measure from the face of the board, have someone hold a plumb line from the bottom front of the board to the floor. If you don't have a plumb line, you can use a piece of string with a pencil or dart tied to one end. Make sure the throw line is exactly perpendicular to the face of the board and centered with the board. This can be accomplished by measuring from the bull’s eye to each corner of the line. The hypotenuse line from the bull to the toe line is 9 feet 7.375 inches. A player may stand further back, but the toes must not cross the front edge of the throwing line.

Lighting:

● Adequate lighting must be provided so the playing surface of the dartboard has a minimum of shadows. Fluorescent lighting is preferred to avoid areas of shadow.

Tournament Quality Dartboards:

● The dartboard must be tournament grade made of suitable quality (Bristle) no less than 1.5 inches in thickness ● The dartboard must be in the color scheme of black, white, green, and red. ● The dartboard must be in “like new” condition with no excessively worn out areas and no bent or buried wires.

● Dartboards must have a “staple less” bull’s eye.

Equipment and Sponsors Responsibility:

● Each sponsoring establishment will provide a bulletin board for weekly results, announcements, schedules, newsletters, etc. ● A scoreboard must be mounted within four feet of the dartboard at not more than a 45 degree angle from the plane of the dartboard. ● A sponsoring establishment must have at least one dartboard per team.
