The structure of the Cumulene is as follows: \ / c=>Cc=—C=—C H H The number of electron pairs carbon (C) are 3 (3 bond pairs). Therefore, it undergoes sp” hybridisation. Hence, the carbon (C) has | unhybridised p-orbital. The carbon (C) has 2 electron pairs (2 bond pairs). Therefore, it undergoes sp hybridisation. Hence, the carbon (C) has 2 unhybridised p-orbitals. The s-orbital of H and sp orbital of C overlaps to form o-bond. The sp-orbital of C and sp” orbital of C overlaps to form o-bond. The p-orbital of C and p orbital of C overlaps to form 2-bond. The sp-orbital of C and sp orbital of C overlaps to form o-bond. Therefore, the type of orbital overlaps that occur in Cumulene are, s/sp” overlap sp’/sp overlap p/p overlap sp/sp overlap
