Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in Math 115
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Text: Calculus,Early Transcendentals by James Stewart 6th Edition
Calculator: A decent graphing calculator such as TI-86 or TI-89.
Murray-pad (engineer’s computation pad) for homework
Grading: Homework 30%
Class participation 5%
Quizzes 10%
Exam 25%
Final 30%
The grading scale is: 92-100% A; 90-91% A- ; 88-89% B+ ; 82-87% B; 80-81% B- ; 78 – 79% C+ ; 72-77% C; 70-
71% C- ; 60 – 69% D ; below 60% F
Homework: homework will be assigned daily (or close to daily) and will generally be due one week
from the date assigned. Late Homework will not be accepted. You will be notified about assignments
– possibly weekly – that are to be turned in electronically through Webassign. Paper and pencil
homework has the following requirements: (1) it is due at the beginning of class and will be considered
late if it is turned in after that; the grade will be based on two factors, your ability to communicate your
understanding of the problem and two its solution; solutions must be legible, and your logic easy to
follow; It is highly recommended that you complete your homework using a Murray Pad; multiple
pages of a homework assignment must be stapled or you will not receive full credit for the assignment;
DO NOT WRITE SOLUTIONS TO DIFFERENT PROBLEMS IN “COLUMNS” AND DO NOT
WRITE ON THE BACK OF THE PAPER! Correct answers where it is not clear how you arrived at
the solution may not receive full credit. It is STRONGLY encouraged that homework be done in groups.
Paper and pencil assignments will be accepted with up to four names clearly indicated at the top of the
first page.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given daily (or close to daily) and will check to see that you read the assigned
material. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped when calculating your “quiz” average. There will be
no “make-up” quizzes given.
Exams: There will be one mid-term exam (approximately the 5th week of classes) an dthe Final Exam
will be at the regularly scheduled time.
Attendance: You are expected to attend all classes. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to get
homework assignments, due dates for homework assignments, exam dates and changes to due dates and
exam dates. There will frequently be quizzes and/or assignments completed in class. If you are absent
on that day you will not receive credit for that quiz and/or assignment.
Important: Under ‘Course Information’ on Blackboard Check final exam schedule and the Academic
Calendar for important dates and holiday schedule.
