You will spend time on placement in different clinical mental health settings within the Birmingham and Solihull area, as well as learning from our experts at the University. This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and you will be able to apply for Registered Nurse Status after completion. What's covered in the course? Our mental health nursing course will provide you with all the clinical skills, experience and knowledge needed to successfully support those with mental health problems. As a mental health nurse you will be required to work with people in a range of settings and complex situations. You must display excellent communication and observational skills whilst assisting service users through their problems, to help them lead a positive and healthy life. During your first year, you will learn core nursing skills to prepare you for years two and three, where you will become increasingly more field-specific and specialise in mental health nursing. Work placements are built into every year of this course, providing you with excellent experience and practical skills for when you graduate. In addition to your practical experience, you will explore important aspects of values, ethics, research, physiology and social policy to ensure that you are a professional mental health nurse when graduating. Towards the end of the course, you’ll focus on making the transition from nursing student to registered nurse and will be supported by our expert teams every step of the way. Successful completion of the course will make you eligible to apply for professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Where will I study? You will study in our brand new £41 million City South Campus and learn from state-of-the-art facilities which include a simulation facility and skills suite, so that you can continue developing practical skills in real life environments right here on campus.
