Course Description :

Learning Outcome Statements:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. List the components required in any level Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) course according to standards set by the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) and the Arizona Department of Health Services office of Emergency Medical Services (A-DHS O-EMS) and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).
  2. Define and describe the concepts of adult learning as they relate to students in EMT courses.
  3. Apply teaching principles in the design of lecture objectives, course syllabi, and lesson plans.
  4. Design a lecture outline to include resource material.
  5. Effectively use all EMT equipment.
  6. Design teaching methods for EMT skills to include airway management, administrating oxygen, immobilization techniques, and application of pneumatic anti-shock garment (PASG).
  7. Develop a student evaluation matrix.
  8. Prepare appropriate documentation for the American Heart Association (AHA), the A- DHS O-EMS, and NREMT.

Standards:

The student will meet the learning outcomes at the following level, degree or measurement:

  1. Meet the National Standards for Emergency Medical Technician level Instructor from US DOT.
  2. Define and demonstrate appropriate instructional methods to include lesson plans, assessments, and classroom management.
