CRITICAL JOURNAL REVIEW
Visual Effects Cinematography : The Cinematographer’s Filmic Technique From
Traditional To Digital Era
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
The art of telling stories visually is called cinematography. Anyone can mount a
camera on a tripod, press the record button, but cinematography's artistry is in
determining what the viewer sees (or doesn't see), as well as how the image is presented.
As a visual medium, movies are greatest when you can understand what's happening
without hearing any spoken. It's possible to create scenes using this visual language if
you have a basic understanding of composition and scene structure. Learn how to
compose each shot such that it is visually appealing for the spectator and how many
pictures combine to create a clear, coherent narrative. Your movies will be more thrilling
and engaging if you follow these straightforward guidelines.
In order to achieve "special effects," methods outside of the "usual" filmmaking
processes are used. That is to say, when something might be more difficult, take longer,
or require "special" methods. According to the current definition, "special" effects are
when any of these components or their interfaces are physically changed. [1] Visual
effects are special effects created using photographic or digital technology that take place
after the principal photography, or main shooting, of a film. They are also known as
optical effects or photographic effects. includes stop-motion animation, matte paintings,
optical and digital effects, miniatures, and computer-generated visuals.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background The art of telling stories visually is called cinematography. Anyone can mount a camera on a tripod, press the record button, but cinematography's artistry is in determining what the viewer sees (or doesn't see), as well as how the image is presented. As a visual medium, movies are greatest when you can understand what's happening without hearing any spoken. It's possible to create scenes using this visual language if you have a basic understanding of composition and scene structure. Learn how to compose each shot such that it is visually appealing for the spectator and how many pictures combine to create a clear, coherent narrative. Your movies will be more thrilling and engaging if you follow these straightforward guidelines. In order to achieve "special effects," methods outside of the "usual" filmmaking processes are used. That is to say, when something might be more difficult, take longer, or require "special" methods. According to the current definition, "special" effects are when any of these components or their interfaces are physically changed. [1] Visual effects are special effects created using photographic or digital technology that take place after the principal photography, or main shooting, of a film. They are also known as optical effects or photographic effects. includes stop-motion animation, matte paintings, optical and digital effects, miniatures, and computer-generated visuals. 1.2 Purpose The purpose of this CJR is to review the contents of the journal. In addition to reviewing the contents of the journal, another objective is to find out what information is contained in the journal, the purpose of this CJR is also to train oneself to think critically in finding the information contained in the journal.

1.3 Benefits The benefits of this CJR are to fulfill tasks, find out more details about the journals being reviewed, increase knowledge and knowledge from the journal, get information, hone to be able to think critically, and train oneself to be able to criticize and provide suggestions. 1.4 Identity of The Journal  Title : Visual Effects Cinematography : The Cinematographer’s Filmic Technique From Traditional To Digital Era  Vol : 2  Year : 20 12  ISSN : 2450-  Author : Nawal Mohamed Saleh ELDIN  Publisher : The Turkish Online Journal of Design, Art, and Communication CHAPTER II JOURNAL CONTENTS 2.1 Summary of The Journal According to the Visual Effects Society, "visual effects" refers to any imagery produced, changed, or improved for a movie or other moving image that cannot be achieved through live-action filming. In other words, a large portion of the art of visual effects is created during post-production, following the conclusion of main image capture. Through methods including matte painting, rear- and front-screen projection, miniature or forced perspective sets, computer-generated objects, characters, and locations, as well as the combining of several images captured in a variety of ways, visual effects can be added to live-action capture. From both perspectives, we can conclude that: A visual effect is when moving images are altered using photographic or digital technology to produce the illusion of a photorealistic film.

collaborates more closely with the CG artist to maintain the shot's consistency in lighting, perspective, and mood. CHAPTER III ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES 3.1 The Advantages of Journal The journal's organizational skills are a strength. The journal's contents are likewise simple to understand. A really good abstract, as merely by reading it do we already know what the journal's contents will be about. Without reading the entire publication, readers can still grasp the results, aims, and research technique thanks to the abstract, which contains these information. The presentation is also extremely intriguing, the subject is focused on the title, and the subjects covered are also in line with the current title. 3.2 The Disadvantages of Journal In the journal the drawback is that this article discusses more about the use of theory explained by using diagrams which make the reader a little confused. CHAPTER IV CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION 4.1 Conclusion As old as cinema itself, special effects filmmaking is. The cinematographer had a significant part in creating the special effects scene, either by creating the entire effect in camera or by combining optical effects in a lab after filming. After the digital revolution, the question of whether the role of the cinematographer has remained the same arises. Is

it necessary to learn new skills to be a master cinematographer in the digital age? Based on a comparison study, this essay aims to examine the distinctions between traditional and digital visual effects from the perspective of the cinematographer. Before the advent of digital technology, the majority of effects were created in a lab or with a camera. However, modern equipment and methods have taken over the movie industry, such as digital visual effects, to the point that actors are occasionally the sole live-action components. Many people are now familiar with the term CGI (Computer Generated Images), and filming is only the first of many procedures that will come after it. The processes listed above are referred to as post production, and this is where the majority of the work on creating visual effects is done. 4.2 Suggestions In this case, we can see that this journal can be used as a reference related to subsequent research that can be in accordance with the material raised in this journal. We can also use it as a basis during the courses that support this journal as a reference. We as authors also hope that our analysis and criticism of the contents of this journal can be used as a basis for people who are doing research using this as a basis for reviewing whether this journal is suitable or not in its use.
