Intro to Chicanos

Story of Self- Reflection
I enjoyed this lesson because I find it hard for myself to write about my
own story. I struggle with scholarships because in a way I feel like I have to
exploit myself in order to receive funds, when really , I see know, is just
explaining the story of myself. Sadly I have been through a lot of trying times
(to say it easily) and after hearing the speakers and reflecting upon the
speakers words, it makes me realize that if I open myself up and I share the
trauma and the experience in the knowledge that I have gained from these
situations I may be able to further help somebody else.
Listening to the speakers broaden my eyes to the kind of trauma that
effects children. While what both of the speakers had gone through was not
violent or physically damaging, Both speakers were traumatized as children.
Both have taken those experiences and are making the change they want to see
in the world. That alone, is the key to a better world.
My reflection on the events and the strengths of leaders like Caesar
Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and even Martin Luther King have expanded on how
their story of self, became a “story of us.” With the deeper connection of “US”

the movements WOULD not have had such and impact on the community, the nation, and the world. I think this was a great presentation. This is a topic that goes beyond Chicanos but something that will be influencing my own daily actions in how I treat myself, speak about myself, and how I share my experience of life with other.
