TERM 1
DEFINITION 1 Began in the 1770s to 1780s in Britain, because of textile manufacturing. This was a term used to capture the drama of contemporary change and to draw a parallel to the French Revolution. James Watt invented the steam engine which could pump water from coal mines or drive machinery in textile manufacturing. TERM 2
DEFINITION 2 Refereed to the Labor's in factories. Where entire families came to toil for a single wage, where working people were brought into factories with machines under close supervision of there employers. TERM 3
DEFINITION 3 the growth of towns and cities due to movement of people from rural to urban areas. There were many consequences including hunger, poverty, immigration, overcrowding. For Example There were 461 people to one house. There was an "Atmosphere of Filth", and the break out of disease, such as the cholera epidemic. People moved to the cities for work because less and less became available in the countryside. TERM 4
DEFINITION 4 Reform was taken on in the 19th century forms of religion, such as Sunday school. Education was another social reform and seen as the main prospects for uplifting the the poor and the working class. During this time animal cruelty became a social reform as well. Women became domesticated during this time and we began to see stereotypes pop up in culture. Women became uninterested in sex known as the Victorian Era. Welfare was introduced during this time known as the Starvation Act.Temperance was also a huge social reform. TERM 5
DEFINITION 5 The East Indian Trading Company traded with China and the had only one port open in Canton, and restricted the trade of Opium. In 1839 the British attacked China's coastal cities and in 1842 the war ended with the Treaty of Nan-King where China opened up 4 more ports to trade with Britain.

DEFINITION 7 The Revolutions of 1848, known in some countries as the Spring of Nations, People's Spring, Springtime of the Peoples, or the Year of Revolution, were a series of political upheavals throughout Europe in 1848. It remains the most widespread revolutionary wave in European history.
