Preamble !
The International House is a hallmark for cultural diversity and unity at Trinity College. We
establish this constitution to protect the rights of every member and to ensure that the
International House continues to live up to its mission: to celebrate, promote, and raise
awareness of different cultural groups represented by students at Trinity College, regardless
of their race, gender identity and expression, ethnic background, religious beliefs, or sexual
orientation. We believe that a strong college institution is maintained through unity, and that
unity cannot be achieved unless we, the students, reach a level of acceptance and
understanding for the respective backgrounds that ever student at Trinity comes from. This
constitution not only represents a set of regulations to guide our organization, but also a
promise to the Trinity College community that we will not falter, we will not be weary, and
we will not fail to live up to the purpose of our organization and that of Trinity College. We
will remember that our strength is in our belief that every culture deserves respect. In the
spirit of the growing diversity at our institution, we put forth this constitution, to be an
everlasting document that celebrates our unity.!

Article I: Leadership!
The International House will have elected officials that will be in charge of serving the
organization and her interests. These officials will be elected annually, and will hold their
respective positions in good behavior and effectiveness of the leadership they provide.!

Prerequisite: Must have spent at least one year on the Executive Board!
Job Description:!
1. The office of the President is the highest office in the International House organization.
He or she presides over executive board meetings and is the main leader of the day-to-day
operations of the organization. !

THE INTERNATIONAL HOUSE (I-HOUSE)

President Prerequisite: Must have spent at least one year on the Executive Board Job Description:

  1. The office of the President is the highest office in the International House organization. He or she presides over executive board meetings and is the main leader of the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  1. He or she also oversees voting on issues and can also serve as a tiebreaker when needed.
  2. He or she has the power to propose and establish policies with the consent of the executive board.
  3. He or she also has certain executive powers that can be exercised when the executive board is unable to convene over a policy decision.
  4. He or she is the final arbiter of any policy decision and is responsible for making sure that those policies are effectively carried out.
  5. The President has the prerogative to establish committees, sub-committees, or additional offices to help carry out day-to-day operations as he or she sees fit.
  6. He or she will serve as the face of the organization to others.
  7. It is also the duty of the President to give a report on the state of the House at the end of each semester. Vice President Prerequisite: Must have spent at least one year on the Executive Board Job Description:
  8. He or she assists the President in the organization’s daily operations.
  9. He or she is required to serve as the Acting President in the event that the President is unable to fulfill his or her duties.
  10. He or she serves as a representative of the International House on external committees as delegated by the President.
  11. He or she collaborates with the Social Chairs in the planning of special events. Social Chairs (2) Prerequisite: Highly organized individuals Job Description:
  12. The two Social Chairs will serve as the main organizers of any event hosted by the organization. Their primary duty is to ensure that the logistical concerns of events are addressed and that all events are well-planned and performed smoothly.

Public Relations Officers (2) Prerequisite: Open to any Trinity student Job Description:

  1. Maintaining our social networking sites
  2. Publicizing events on weekly basis (eg. creating flyers, Facebook events, invitations)
  3. Coordinating and supervising the rest of the Executive Board in advertising efforts Outreach Officer Prerequisite: Open to any Trinity student Job Description: The Outreach acts as a liaison between the International House and the Trinity College Faculty, as well as to other student organizations initially (mainly other cultural houses). S/ He has the responsibility of coordinating events that the Trinity College Faculty wants to organize in collaboration with the International House. Along with this, it is also the responsibility of the faculty outreach to assist other e-board members with their tasks, especially collaborative efforts with other campus entities. First-year Representatives (2) Prerequisite: Member of the First-year Class Job description:
  4. Reach out to first year class and welcome them to I-house
  5. Represent and other students’ needs and desires to the e-board
  6. Be actively involved in I-house activities and be welcoming hosts
  7. Attend E-board meetings, engage in discussion and participate in decision making
  8. Always ready to serve and do temporary assigned work

Since it is the first year for FRs in the I-house, he/she should be ready to learn and accept delegated responsibilities from others on the e-board. FRs should also be proactive and willing to step up like any other member of the eboard, as this is a position without supervising responsibilities but also the most versatile in terms of the potential range of delegations received. Training and Development Chairs (2) Prerequisite: Must have served on the board for at least a year. Job description: This is a fall semester-only position.

  1. Assist and supervise new E-board members. Pass down knowledge to them so they will be ready sooner and function as active leaders on the E-board in the spring semester.
  2. Set the tone and be leaders during meetings, events, and other sessions.
  3. Be an active member in the planning and execution of events. Article II: Membership The International House is a space for all members of the Trinity College community. Access to the house is available to students who do not have a place to stay over during the major holidays and breaks observed at Trinity. These students will maintain access if they attend required cleanings at the House on a monthly basis and follow all rules and regulations regarding access. Only the President can approve any other requests for access. Section I: Access Access to the International House is a privilege, not a right. We believe that anyone who has access has earned that privilege because they worked for it. Anyone who abuses that privilege will have his or her access to the House revoked.
