you give each breath.

(bridge) of the nose
Position the wide end so it covers the mouth.
AED - ANSWERAn AED is a machine with a computer in it that can shock the heart
and help it work properly again. If you start CPR right away and then use an AED
within a few minutes, you will have the best chance of saving a life.

Try not to interrupt compressions for more than 10 seconds, even when you give breaths. Adult CPR: - ANSWER1. Make sure the scene is safe.

  1. Tap and shout.
  2. Yell for help. You or someone else should phone the emergency response number (or 911) and get the AED.
  3. Check breathing.
  4. If the person isn't breathing or is only gasping, give CPR.
  5. Give 30 compressions at a rate of at least 100 a minute and a depth of at least 2 inches. After each compression, let the chest come back up to its normal position.
  6. Open the airway and give 2 breaths.
  7. Keep giving sets of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until the AED arrives, the person starts to respond, or trained help arrives and takes over. There are 2 steps for using an AED: - ANSWER1. Turn the AED on.
  8. Follow the prompts you see and hear. Give CPR - ANSWERIf a person doesn't respond and if that person isn't breathing or is only gaspy then you need to ________ Before you assess the need for CPR: - ANSWERmake sure the scene is safe. Look for anything nearby that might hurt you. You don't want to hurt yourself. Tap and shout - ANSWERCheck if the person responds. Tap him and shout, "Are you OK?" If he doesn't move, speak, blink, or otherwise react, then he is not responding Phone 911 and get AED - ANSWERIf the person doesn't respond, it's important to get help. You or someone else (yell for help if you need to) should phone your emergency response number (or 911) Get an AED. If avalable. If the person doesn't respond: - ANSWERIf the person doesn't respond, check his breathing. If the person isn't at all or if he is only "gasping," then he needs CPR. If the person is breathing but not responding: - ANSWER1. roll him to his side and wait for someone with more advanced training to arrive and take over.
