How can this communication break down?
Communication barrier Ways to overcome the communication barrier Client has dementia and this can make her aggressive towards her carers. Child had autism and cannot verbally communicate this can make them frustrated and hit or bite others around them. Someone has a speech impairment and finds it difficult to say words clearly, this can lead to them becoming physical when they are annoyed that no one understands them. Always use a clam tone when dealing with others. Give the individual space, do not crowd their individual space. Ask them to show you want they want rather than keep asking them to repeat the words.

A child is not playing well with others but is due a nap A teenager has had 2 exams in one day and is expected to interact with others in the final lesson of the day Change the time of the meeting so that it is not at the end of anyone's shift Arrange activities that are individual and encourage children to have regular naps. Plan a more relaxed lesson to meet the individual needs of the students.

An elderly client who has hearing issues is in the garden which is near to a busy road. Face the person when talking to them ensuring that your face is not covered so that they can read your expressions. Speak clearly but do not shout.
