BIOGRAPHY PAPER For this paper, please write a minimum of 1-2 pages (double-spaced) about your Community Member partner and your thoughts about his/her career path. For the first part of the paper, you may include any or all of the following:  What did you learn about this person?  What type of work have they pursued?  How did this person find his/her first job?  What are they doing now?  What kind of career and/or personal goals does this person have?  Did your partner attend college? Where?  What kind of classes and clubs did he/she enjoy? Secondly, your paper should include your reactions and opinions on what you heard from your partner. You may wish to answer some of the following questions. Does this sound like a career you might enjoy? What do you think about this person’s job search methods and career goals? Have college classes and clubs changed since the time your partner was in school? This assignment should be typed in Times New Roman 12pt font using double-spacing, with 1 inch margins. Your paper should be spell-checked, grammatically accurate and include the information described above. This assignment is due in class on Thursday, February 12, 2009. SELF-REFLECTION PAPER Using the results of your Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Work-Related Values Game from class, write a 2-3 page paper. This paper has two parts.

  1. Briefly, summarize the results and outcomes of these three assessments.
  2. Offer your personal reflections. You may wish to consider the following questions: What did I learn about myself from these exercises? Do I agree with my results? What surprised me the most about these results? Was the values game difficult and if so, why? What did I learn from the Community partners during the work-related values game? What are some specific types of careers that might be a good fit for me? Based on my MBTI results, what are some specific types of careers that might NOT be a good fit for me – and why not? How do I think these assessments might help me in making career decisions? This paper should be typed in Times New Roman 12pt font using double-spacing, with 1 inch margins. Your paper should be spell-checked, grammatically accurate and be a thoughtful, insightful reflection on what you have learned about yourself from these exercises. This assignment is due in class on Thursday, February 19, 2009. INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEW – REQUEST LETTER As discussed in class, you are to write a formal letter of request to your Career Connections partner, asking to schedule an informational interview. Your letter should be Times New Roman 12 pt font, in traditional business style, free of spelling or grammatical errors. You may wish to review the sample Inquiry/Networking letter posted on the Career Services website at http://www.rollins.edu/careerservices/resumes/resumessamples.htm This assignment is due in class on Thursday, February 26, 2009.

The conversation with your Career Connections volunteer may be conducted over the phone, face-to-face and perhaps even onsite at their place of employment, but MAY NOT be conducted via email. Sample talking points are provided below for your informational interview, but you and your Career Connections volunteer may decide together how to proceed with the conversation. Although the only part of this assignment that you will submit for a grade is your final presentation, you may be asked at any time to share your progress with the instructor, thus it is important to avoid procrastination on this assignment. Waiting until the last minute to contact your volunteer and conduct the interview is bad practice and unprofessional. Your Career Connections volunteer may be unable to talk with you if you don’t schedule your conversation in advance. There is plenty of time to complete this assignment – waiting until the last minute may result in points deducted from your overall grade.
