Preparation for Lecture
Histology Chapter
Directions: Keep the following questions in mind as your read pages 110-144 of Seeley.
Formulate answers to the questions then open the electronic answer sheet at the
Supplemental Blackboard site and enter them prior to class. Please be aware that the
electronic answer sheet is only available prior to class and is automatically made
unavailable when class begins.
1. Heavy smoking destroys the pseudostratified ciliated epithelium lining the trachea.
Speculate what might happen if these cells are replaced by nonciliated epithelium
during the course of tissue repair.
2. I think that the connective tissues presented in the book can be classified into five
major categories based on the composition of their matrices (plural form of matrix).
Look over the connective tissues. What names would you give to each of the five
categories?
3. This chapter demonstrates the importance of which important biomolecule
(carbohydrate, protein, or fat) best? Justify your answer.
4. Defend or refute this statement: A human body that contains fatty (adipose) tissue is
an unhealthy one. Fat is just the result of eating too much and has no purpose other
than energy storage.
Proofread all answers prior to submittal. Write in complete sentences. College-level
work conveys the writer’s meaning in an understandable way. Poor word choice,
sentence structure, and numerous misspellings affect my ability to understand your
writing and therefore your grade.
