Redoy Sarker English 101 May 15, 2023 Professor: Holly O’Donnell The Semester of 2nd In the blink of an eye, I have passed the second semester of my college life. Still, it feels like I started my journey yesterday might be four years will pass in the same way. This semester gave me the splash of the upcoming main courses. To be honest with you I could not concentrate on my study from the very beginning of this semester as I was in my first semester. So I can not say this semester was great for me. Now, only the last few days left to sum up this semester, I am working hard to get at least a passing grade or even more. I took five classes on the same day which was the cause of the extra pressure of study. Now I am at the very end and if I look back I would say the beginning was not good because I had to go through a very hard time financially and this semester did not get time to release pressure and restart with determination. sometimes we need to refresh our minds which can lead to a good start on work or study with the revived mind. I had planned to do well this semester but it did not go accordingly. As my major is computer science and I am very curious about learning about it so I wanted to learn and know everything instead of good results. As this is my first semester of the main course I did not understand a lot of things because I had no previous knowledge about it. As a result, I had to pass a difficult time to catch it.
The first point that I want to bring up, people cannot work efficiently if they are passing through difficult times on the inner side. If it’s a matter of money and family related then it impacts badly mentally. People can focus on anything whether work or study. For instance, in the first semester, I was very excited to state my college life and my focus on study was going as planned. I was financially stable, and get time to spend with my family and friends it total my life went very well. that time I planned I will take more classes and I will not take a gap in between any classes. so I took four full-time courses and one short time course which is in total five courses. My plan was I will utilize morning to nighttime as much as I can. When I step into the first class of this semester a financial disaster crushed us. the place where we did business we had to move another place at very sudden. This thing made us very busy and tense. in the first few weeks, I tried to pass the syllabus and complete every assignment on time but in the middle, I got very busy with our store. it is like I passed five days a week in the store rest of the two days I attended college. the mental pressure from both sides made it unstable and unconcentrated in the study. I could not pay my tuition bill at the time. Sometimes I felt an unbearable situation for this. As a result, I usually did not get time to complete assignments. I don’t know why I felt very sleepy afternoon class and the nighttime class so I had to take coffee to keep myself awake and concentrate on class. At a very busy time, I am passing the last few weeks of this semester. Try to make up some assignments where I still have time to submit it. I am hoping that I could recover my study and will take good preparation for exams. Hopefully, I will get my desired result. The second point that through my more difficult situation is, no time for refreshment. Research says, taking purposeful breaks from the study can refresh our brain and body and increase our productivity, energy, and ability to focus. In the past semester, I had two-hour breaks
Redoy Sarker English 101 May 15, 2023 Professor: Holly O’Donnell English Class 101 What do we have been taught about English in the English 101 course? Well, this class brought up real-life stories. This is the class where we have been taught the untold story or a behind the scene of many others. “Coming to an Awareness of Language” from Unit One to unit nine “Grown up Trans” more than 50 articles and documentaries might impact us in any other way. When I was watching some documentaries or reading an article it made me feel like I am in that situation or I had been in this situation before or I will be. In short, I found myself in some articles and I am sure other students felt that too. I rarely missed class but my sleepy eyes killed me to give a full focus on the class. coffee helped me a lot to keep myself awake and enjoy the documentaries. The best part of the class is when documentaries were shown to us. “One Voice” by Susan Madera was my favorite article from Unite One because it showed me myself as a mirror I could feel the difficult situation with speaking that Madera had to pass. One more thing that I liked in Unite Three is “A Call to Men” by Tony Porter. The way he wanted to change social norms that badly impact the culture and promoted a more healthy and respectful definition of manhood. The article that touched my heart is “The Life as an Undocumented Immigrant” by Jose Antonio Vargas from Unit Two. This is the life lesson real-life story. Most of the time I get in touch with many undocumented people might be that is the core reason for choosing this story. I wrote my main three essays based on these three articles and documentaries.
People entered the United States with the dream of a better life for themselves and their families. Millions of immigrants have been coming since the 1800s. They are pushing up their families as well as the U.S. economy. When people entered the United States always the first generation suffer more than the rest of the generation. Jose Antonio Vargas was the first generation who had entered the United States at the age of twelve with his grandparents and overstayed. He was born in the Philippines but grew up in America. At the age of 16, he first found himself an illegal immigrant when he tried to get a driving license. Illegal immigrants usually hide their immigrant status as he did too because it is shameful for them. Vargas did not stop there he got a higher degree and became a journalist. He worked with some well-known newspapers and news channels. Vargas was the founder of a nonprofit organization that worked with undocumented people. Through all of these, he was fighting for his immigration status. The inner pain was killing him day by day. Staying far from family, and fighting against the government was not easy to do for him. The strong desire to see his mother's face made his day tougher. His fake documents including his green card help him to avoid deportation in President Obama’s Administration. He was working hiddenly to get a permanent immigration status back. He had to suffer a lot for this. finally, after many years later he gets the chance to meet with his mom and brother. Whenever he talks about his family he gets emotional it is a clear message to us that he has a strong desire to meet with his family or even he doing all of that just to visit his country. I met a lot of people in New York whose luck has been hanging on New York. For instance, I met a guy named Azad. Who has been working in a deli store? he has been living in the USA for more than 40 years. He left his house at the age of 27. He is the father of two kids. He flew in America with a visitor visa and overstayed like Jose Vargas. he work all of these years
