Lesson 22 : Aesthetic Formalism
Assessment 1.
1. Differentiate aesthetic from artistic.
→ Aesthetic refers to the sensory contemplation or the appreciation of the
beauty while artistic refers to the recognition or criticism of an artwork.
2. Explain “Aesthetic - Usability” Phenomenon.
→ Aesthetic Usability effect is a phenomenon where people consider more
aesthetic designs to be easier to use that less aesthetic designs .It also refers
to the users tendency to perceived attractive products as more usable. People
tend to believe that things look better will work better even If it is not literally
that effective of efficient. This phenomenon, users also have a positive
emotional response to visual designs that makes them more tolerant of minor
usability issues.
3. Which do you prefer an artistically made product or aesthetically designed
product? Why?
→ I prefer to choose artistically made product than aesthetically designed
product. Although aesthetic products is one good thing to consider in
choosing for a design but I choose more the artistically made products
because this products introduces the intellectual and practical skills of an
artists. Artistic products are made from the imaginatively and creative minds
of the creators.
4. What is Aesthetic Theory?
→ it is also known as Formalism which stresses the visual quality of the
artwork and it also focuses on the on the effective arrangements of elements
of arts . Aesthetic Theory is also projected as projected and abstract also
consciously detached from ideological and contextual context.
5. Enumerate and explain the three (3) Aesthetic Theories of Art Criticism
A. Which theory applies to your product reference? Why?
→ The three Aesthetic Theories are immitationalism, formalism and
institutionalism.
Immitationalism refers has to do with the contention of some art critics
that what is essential about an artwork is how real or natural the images
depicted in them resemble their models.
Formalism upholds the view that the value of an artwork is inherent in its
form and style of creation. It also appreciates modern and post-modern
artworks and not recognize mimesis as a valuable quantity of artworks.
Institutionalism is only regarded as an artwork if it is certified to be
created by an artists. Those arts created by person without art training is not
