II. Catalog Description
Prerequisite: Organic Chemistry I (CHEM-211) This course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry I. The chemistry of aromatic compounds, carbonyl compounds, amines, carbohydrates, amino acids and proteins, and some aspects of biochemistry are among the topics surveyed. Four hours of lecture and a four-hour laboratory per week.
III. Statement of Course Need
This is the second course in a two semester sequence (Organic Chemistry I and II) which is required in the following AS options: Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and Biotechnology. Although not required, it is recommended in the Pre-Chiropractic and Pre-Physician's Assistant programs, and may be required by some transfer institutions in those fields.

B. Degree program, option or certificate requirement: Required course in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and Biotechnology options of the Science and Mathematics Associate of Science degree program.
C. Elective: May be used as a part of a required two semester science sequence or as a science elective in the other options of the Science and Mathematics degree Program and as an science elective by non-science majors.
