Introduction Studying is the key to success. As college students, studying is important because it gives us the knowledge and skills we need to pursue the career we want and our passions. Studying opens our minds and eyes to understand and see the bigger picture. It helps us improve our way of living and vision; we'll be gaining a deeper understanding of what's right, wrong, fair, and unfair. As we develop our reasoning and critical thinking skills, we'll be able to apply these skills to situations in our lives. It helps make the world a better place. Adding additional study areas is a great help to all students as going to malls and other places to stay during their vacant time is a hustle for them, and paying fare in jeepneys back and forth is a waste of time and money since WIT has only limited study areas that can't accommodate all students. One of the most important reasons for having an additional study area is that it sharpens the mind and improves concentration. Adding study area is better than going to malls and other places. The student in a study area is much less likely to be disturbed by other people. It will help minimize distractions, improve concentration and relaxation, lower stress, and help students study as efficiently as possible.
Rationale Western Institute of Technology (W.I.T.) was organized in 1964 to establish an Engineering school to serve the growing human resources needs of Western Visayas. It has produced some of the country's foremost talents and thinkers who occupy meaningful posts and stations in the public and private sectors. It continues its noble commitment to train and teach well so that our nation will benefit from the educational excellence it offers. They attest to the school’s commitment to providing a well-trained, competent workforce and professional leadership with integrity. Learning and Concentration is one of the factors that everyone believes could help the student to excel in their chosen fields. According to study, there are 25000+ of students enrolled in the institute and there are only few places or study area inside the campus and it cannot accommodate even 25% of the students. Students finding a place to study is a waste of time and could lessen their concentration. With this reason, we came up with the construction of canopies as additional study area in the RTS Campus of Western Institute of Technology. Constructing a study area in the RTS campus encourage the students to study more often and lessen the possibility of going out in the campus. Canopies is one of the infrastructures to build inside of the campus that could be a safe place for the students to study and relax, which could also increase their concentration and lessen their stress.
Project Description The essence of this project is to install multiple canopies to help the students of WIT with their problem regarding the limited place to study and/or stay during their vacant time. With this problem, we figured out to design and install an area that will benefit them. Canopies that we plan to build as study areas are made of stainless steel and wooden planks with polycarbonate roofing for natural lighting to save energy. Some of the canopies have 12 rectangular tables with slightly long benches that can accommodate a minimum of 4 students, some tables are square-type tables with stalls that are just enough to accommodate 1-2 student/s as we also consider people who wants private time. We are also aiming for a neutral color with a touch of green to refresh the minds of everyone who will study there. We decided to build it in every accessible areas on the RTS Campus.
Process Design Phase I Information Gathering To start this project, we need information such as the problem we aim to solve, who will benefit this project and how is it helpful to them. This is the stage where we check all the information and data gathered are correct. With the members’ cooperation, creativity and dedication, this project’s goals and plans will be possible.
Phase III Materials Constructing multiple canopies requires a lot of materials to pursue this project. We have to consider a lot of things such as the material’s durability, availability, ease of installation as well as the pricing to see if it fits the project’s budget.
Phase IV Project Development The construction of multiple canopies will start on April 1, 2023 until April 28,
Phase VI Maintenance It is important to maintain canopy structures in order to prolong the lifespan of them and to keep them safe, avoiding any possible health and safety issues that may arise. Canopies are an important addition to schools and nurseries along with many other industries and therefore it is always vital to keep the canopy looking clean, and ensuring the safety of the structure. Maintaining the canopy in good condition includes clearing the gutters, regularly washing the polycarbonate with warm soapy water.
