  1. Departmental Course Requirements, Evaluation methods, and Grading Criteria :

a. Course Requirements:

  • Pedagogical method : The course is a teamwork effort among students, instructor, and supervisors in real workplace environments. The course uses STC WebCT platform for course website work. Course procedures, content information, and student assignments are worked out on the course website.

Face to face encounters with the instructor occur in orientation sessions, office hours, and in site visits. Class activities focus in the discussion of workplace experiences and in the construction of students’ professional profiles.

Additionally, tutors in the Student Success Centers at all campuses are available to help students with their homework. Assistance with research and information technology tools is available at all STC libraries.

Attendance policy as stated in the 2007-2008 STC Catalog (Pg. 52)

  • Academic Honesty :

In accordance to the Student Code of Conduct, 2007-2008 STC Catalog (pg. 53)

  • Assessment : For assessment purposes, students work on an internship of applied nature. The internship emphasizes the main program learning outcome of the course: “Obtain hands-on training and apply concepts and theories in a workplace setting.” The aim of the internship is to assess students’ ability to integrate academic learning to the real workplace environment.

Students have a say in the specific location of the internship; however, the specific location and nature of the work require explicit instructor approval. Additionally, a formal agreement is required for an in site supervisor. The work must be a specific project related to technology management issues. General job duties are not acceptable. Students must provide formal proposal, monthly reports, and an exit report of the internship. In addition, the in site supervisor must provide a formal evaluation of the student performance.

The internship will count toward the student grade. However, the instructor reports students’ performance on this assignment separately for assessment purposes.

For assessment purposes also, all students in this course must take the exit ACT-CAAP test. The test is administered by STC Test Center. However, the test is created and evaluated by ACT organization. The test does not count toward student grading.

Students must use personal time management and learn the timing of activities in the workplace of the internship. Furthermore, they must demonstrate efficiency in the use of workplace material and monetary resources.

Students must learn quickly the organizational culture of the workplace and engage in the common task of the organization.

Student must demonstrate their ability to collect data and information, and to process them according to organizational methods, specially making use of new computerized procedures.

5. Technology Select Technology Apply Technologies Maintain and Troubleshoot Equipment

Technology is a must component of the specific project that the student proposes, develops, and works during the internship.

Failure to attend these required classes may result in the student’s withdrawal from ALL college courses.
