(Initiated by Community Pediatric Society of the Philippines)
Dr. Fe del Mundo established the first Pediatric Hospital in the country named Children’s Medical Center Philippines ( CMCP) in 1957. Its main mission is to provide knowledge and skills to pediatric residents in the community setting through community involvement. The Children’s Medical Center Philippines started its community outreach program in Mexico Pampanga in 1979 and later in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, training Mother Health Workers. In 1989, the third community satellite was established in Liliw, Laguna.
In 1994 Dr. Fe Del Mundo founded the Community Pediatric Society of the Philippines (CPSP), an affiliate society of the PMA. In that same year, a child-to-child program for children was conceptualized as one of its flagship endeavors. Thus, springing from the mother Health Worker Program , the Bulilit Health Worker training program of school children was created to develop the enthusiasm to learn about health.
The program was brought to Batangas in 1996 due to a typhoid outbreak in San Jose, Batangas. This school based project was started in cooperation with the Lipa City Medical Society, CMCP and the Department of Education. The program developed into a foundation, officially registered with the Security and Exchange Commission last September 21, 1999. Dr. Fe Del Mundo was the Honorary Chairman with Dr. Benito P. Atienza as the Founding President. Enthusiasm and encouragement has spread far and wide to more elementary schools in the province of Batangas.
The project was recognized and awarded by the Philippine Medical Association, DepEd, and the Philippine Pediatric Society. It was also recognized by the World Health Organization and World Medical Association.
In 2010,the CPSP shared the Bulilit/Teen Health Workers training program with the Philippine Medical Association as part of the National Medicine Week Celebration. The program was adopted as one of the advocacy projects of the PMA with budget allocation of P50,000.00 as per Board Resolution # 094 series of 2010-2011.
In August 6, 2011, Dr. Fe Del Mundo died at the age of 99 years, 3 months before her Centennial birthday, thus the annual child activity day was dedicated to her during the Medicine Week Celebration. Thus, it was renamed Dr. Fe Del Mundo Bulilit & Teen Health Annual Congress.
