1. Choose one country for analysis: France, India, Japan, Mexico, or Venezuela. Contact your instructor if you wish to examine a different country. Your Chosen Country: Japan 2. Use the CIA World Factbook and Freedom House websites to learn about your chosen country. Answer the following questions based on the lesson and your research in complete sentences: ● What type of government does the country have? Describe how it structures authority. Japan has a parliamentary government. A prime minister has the authority to rule over the citizens from their constitution. Their government has three branches just like United States, with checks and balances. ● Does the country have features of democratization, meaning are there signs it is moving closer to or away from democracy? Explain. Japan is continuing to push towards a democracy, and new laws are being put in place to be a more ideal democracy.

● Is this country's economic system closer to a command or to a free market economy? Use at least one fact in your response. Japan is a free market economy, where labor provides currency, unlike the command market economy when the government intervenes with it. ● How does the country’s economy compare to that of the United States? Use at least one data figure in your response, such as GDP per capita. As of 2021, the United States has GDP per capita of $70,248.63 USD. Whereas Japan has a GDP per capita of $39,312.66 USD. ● To what extent does the country’s government and economic system support or conflict with U.S. principles? Use one specific principle in your explanation. (Recall that some of the principles are limited government, rule of law, and individual rights.) The government and economic system supports that of the United States. Many laws and regulations are similar to that of our own government body. They are stricter on certain things such as censorship. Japan sensors much more than the United States, as the government tries to conceal certain info from the public if necessary.
